Today we attended the ‘National Workshop on Tribal Rights and Resource Governance’ held in the city of Bhubaneswar. Many OSVSWA’s past and ongoing projects are taking place in rural and remote areas of the state and its beneficiaries are mainly tribal (indigeneous) communities whose mainstay is the exploitation of natural resources. Therefore OSVSWA’s presence in this event was crucial, given the relevance of the issues to be dealed with such as the legal framework driving the rights of these communities regarding access to and exploitation of resources, failures and difficulties faced in the implementation of such framework and alternatives for the fair and sustainable management of natural resources. The recommendations and suggestions from the workshop would help OSVSWA in its future planning activities.

Comenzamos a trabajar en India, por Ana Míguez.

Hoy asistimos al workshop nacional sobre derechos de las comunidades tribales y gobernanza de los recursos celebrado en la ciudad de Bhubaneswar. Muchos de los proyectos de OSVSWA se desarrollan en zonas rurales, siendo sus beneficiarios fundamentalmente comunidades tribales (indígenas) cuyo principal medio de subsistencia es la explotación de los recursos naturales que les proporciona el medio en el que viven. Por ello es muy importante la presencia de OSVSWA en este evento, en el que se tratarán temas de gran relevancia tales como el marco legislativo que rige los derechos de estas comunidades en cuanto a la explotación de los recursos, los fallos y dificultades en la implementación del mismo y posibles alternativas para la gestión justa y sostenible de los recursos naturales.
